Course: Integrated Neurodevelopment

Course for professionals based on the Melillo Method

The Melillo Method is based on the idea that neurodevelopmental neurodevelopmental disorders are caused by imbalances in the cerebral hemispheres.. The method combines a series of exercises and activities designed to stimulate the brain and restore these imbalances..‍

Do you work with children with neurodevelopmental difficulties?
If you are a speech therapist, occupational therapist, teacher or work in the therapeutic field, this course will give you practical tools based on the Melillo Method to enhance the development of your students or patients.

🧩 What you will learn

Primitive reflexes: what they are, how to evaluate them and how to train them.
Muscle tone and balance: their impact on neurological development and strategies to work on them.
Vestibular system and motor coordination: how it influences regulation and learning.
Assessment and training: tools and exercises applicable in the classroom or therapy.
Practical approaches: integration of techniques and use of tools to stimulate the brain.
Support for families: strategies to help children at home and at school.

CONTENT of the course

Session 1: Understanding the brainThe functioning of the brain and its main areas will be discussed, including the areas involved in language and motor skills, such as Broca's area. The autonomic nervous system will be introduced according to the polyvagal theory of Stephen Porges and the relationship between motor skills and cognition will be explained. The essential body systems -vestibular, postural and oculomotor- and their impact on learning and behavior will be reviewed.

Session 2: NeurodevelopmentaldifficultiesThe neurological alterations present in conditions such as dyslexia, ADHD and autism will be studied, analyzing which brain areas may be functioning suboptimally. We will learn how to observe and assess primitive reflexes, as well as how to evaluate the vestibular system and understand its influence on behavior and attention.

‍Session3: Integration of primitive reflexesSpecificexercises for the inhibition and integration of primitive reflexes will be presented. Activities designed to stimulate the vestibular system and improve muscle tone will be worked on, incorporating playful strategies to maintain motivation during the sessions.

‍Session4: Motor and cognitive stimulationExercisesdesigned to stimulate the vestibular and oculomotor systems will be explored. How to combine these activities with cognitive exercises that activate frontal areas, favoring attention, inhibitory control and executive functions will be taught.

‍Session5: Biochemistry and neurodevelopmentHowbody biochemistry influences neurodevelopmental difficulties will be discussed. The gut-brain axis, the immune system and conditions such as PANS and PANDAS will be addressed. The role of the autonomic nervous system in biochemical and endocrine processes will be explained, and basic concepts of supplementation and metabolic support strategies will be presented.

‍Session6: Supportive Tools and TechnologyMaterialsand devices that can be used to stimulate the brain will be explored. The functions and applications of the therapeutic laser, Brain Driver, Rezzimax, and interactive metronome, among others, will be presented. This session will be dedicated to understanding how to integrate technology within the brain stimulation process.

‍Session7: Accompanying familiesWewill teach how to guide parents during the therapeutic process, explaining in a clear way what is happening in their child's development and how to support stimulation at home. Practical strategies will be offered to integrate the exercises into the family routine and enhance the progress achieved in session.

‍Session8: Practical professional integrationTheapplication of the knowledge of the course in daily practice will be worked on. Examples of how to integrate this approach in speech therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, psychology or education sessions will be shown. It will be explained how to design therapeutic sessions based on functional neurological stimulation and how to create personalized intervention programs.
